signing the Petitions to Stop Horse Slaughter!  Activism reallly does work!  But let's not
stop here -  n ow we just have to work on stopping the transportation of horses for the purpose of slaughter to keep America's horses from being transported to Canadian or
Mexican slaughterhouses to endure an even more brutal and inhumane fate.

This site is dedicated to stopping horse slaughter and the transportation of horses for the purpose of slaughter in the United States, to rescuing abused and neglected horses, and to providing information about horses and horse rescue.  You  will learn about the atrocities which horses are being subjected to, and how desperately they are in need of help.  Our noble and beautiful friends are at risk of abuse, neglect, and slaughter every day.  

Horses are still being slaughtered every day in the United States, or they are being bought at auctions all over the United States and transported to Mexico or Canada to be slaughtered there.  There are currently three bills in Congress about horse slaughter .

Mares are being kept confined in stanchions on Premarin* farms in Minnesota, North Dakota,  and Northwestern regions of Canada.  They are kept constantly and indiscriminately in foal to produce the hormone-rich urine needed to make Premarin*, the hormone replacement therapy medication.  They receive little or no care or attention.  The foals are only an unwanted by-product, and their plight is very sad,  though several well-intentioned Rescues are making supreme efforts to buy the foals out of the bondage they are in, in an attempt to save them from slaughter and place them in friendlier adoptive homes.

Horses are still being loaded up like sardines in double-decker livestock trailers, to be transported to slaughterhouses, being tragically and terribly injured, receiving no veterinary care.  Unscrupulous killer buyers are still purchasing horses en masse at auctions, to resell them to slaughterhouses, who butcher them inhumanely, and their meat is sold for human consumption.

And, most tragically of all, people are still buying horses because they are "pretty", not knowing how to take care of them, nor what horse ownership is all about.  They soon tire of the work and expense involved in owning them, and the horses end up at auction, sick, foundered, and looking like skeletons, with their eye sockets sunken in and their hipbones jutting out, heads hanging down.  Not all of them can be saved.  Some are too far gone and it is just too late.  Others have injuries or diseases they can never recover from.  But some of them can be restored to good health by a kind hand, a healthy and moderated diet, and timely veterinary intervention.
